Granite is the natural choice for today’s kitchen and bath. Of all the counter top choices, nothing compares with the natural beauty and ruggedness of polished rock. Unlike solid surface (Corian) and laminate (Formica), granite is impervious to damage by heat and is highly scratch resistant. A granite counter top adds enduring value to your home. Polished granite is a beautiful display of one of the many wonders of the world. Granite is found in a variety of patterns and colors, such as almost white, light grey, dark grey, green, pink and red. Granite is mainly composed of Quartz (35%), Feldspar (45%) and Potassium. Feldspar are light minerals that give granite most of its color. Black granite is known as an Anorthosite. It contains very little quartz and feldspar and is highly stain resistant. Granite is the preferred choice of surface to use in kitchens due to its durability. Because of marbles softness, it is more susceptible to stains and scratches. Although not recommended for kitchen applications, marble does make a beautiful top for most bathroom applications. |
